Event 2

Summary Report: First Cloud AI Journey Meetup

Event Objectives

The event was organized with the core goal of bridging the gap between academic knowledge and real-world work at multinational corporations (MNCs). Specifically:

  • Career Mindset Orientation: Helping final-year students (years 3-4) prepare their mindset ahead of shifting recruitment demands in the AI era.
  • Sharing Real-world Experience: Providing multi-dimensional perspectives on roles such as Data Analytics, DevOps, and AI Engineering through real stories from professionals working at major firms like Endava, Kamereo, and Colgate-Palmolive.
  • Building a Tech Community: Introducing growth roadmaps through the AWS Student Builder Group and AWS Community Builder programs to support learners from beginners to experts.

Speakers

  • Mr. Dat Pham - Data Analytics Engineer
  • Mr. Cuong Nguyen - Process Engineer
  • Danh Hoang Hieu Nghi - AI Engineer, AWS Community Builder & AWS Student Builder Group Leader
  • Trong H. Truong - DevOps Engineer at Endava Vietnam
  • Dinh Trung Kien & Nguyen Minh Tho - Presenting the technical solution: “A scalable URL shortening service on AWS”

Key Highlights

The Reality of the Data Analytics Field

  • Data Analytics work is not identical at every company. At Kamereo, the focus is on building Dashboards to track daily operational performance; whereas at Colgate-Palmolive, it centers on analyzing IoT machinery data to optimize production processes.

The “5-Step” Path of a Professional

  • The roadmap of personal capability development goes through 5 stages:
    1. Follower (The executor)
    2. Learner (The proactive learner)
    3. Problem Solver (The problem resolver)
    4. System Thinker (The system mind)
    5. Super Star (The visionary leader)

The True Essence of DevOps

  • DevOps is not just about using tools like Docker or Kubernetes (K8s); its core essence is understanding how applications run, automating repetitive tasks, and ensuring system stability.

International Corporate Culture

  • No-Blame Post-Mortem: When technical issues occur, focus on investigating and repairing system weaknesses instead of searching for individuals to blame.
  • Caring & Inclusive: A work environment that respects diversity, equality, and places human factors at the center.

Professional Hiring Process

  • Gaining clarity on real recruitment steps from automated resume screening via ATS, competency assessments, to technical interviews using the STAR (Situation - Task - Action - Result) model.

Key Takeaways

Value of Fundamentals

  • Technology tools will always change over time, but foundational knowledge of Linux, Networking, and Coding is the timeless value that every engineer needs to master.

Responsible AI Use

  • Leverage the power of AI to elevate personal skills, but absolutely never let AI make you “switch off your brain” during the thinking and problem-solving process.

Critical Thinking

  • Before rushing to find out how to solve a problem, always ask why to deeply understand the root cause of the issue.

Event Experience & Personal Insights

The event offered an open space for dialogue, presenting real-world lessons on failure and resilience in the tech industry rather than just theoretical lectures.

Q&A Highlight

  • I directly asked Mr. Trong H. Truong (Endava Vietnam) about effective communication between different teams. I received a profound answer: Communication is an inseparable part of engineering work. To be effective, we must make everything clear and understandable for the whole team and avoid trying to be a “lone hero”—instead focusing on smooth coordination between departments.

Overall Impression

  • The event helped me recalibrate where I stand on my career roadmap and highlighted that connecting with the community (Networking) is a crucial step to expand one’s mindset.
